Reiki
(pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, which is all around us and is used by many people all over the world.

A Reiki Treatment
An explanation of what the treatment involves will be given and some details taken about you, including medical history. You will be asked to lie (or sit if this is easier) as comfortably as possible. You won't have to remove any clothing except for anything which may restrict breathing or comfort. This is so you can feel comfortable and relaxed during the treatment. Reiki will go through clothing, blankets or even a plaster cast if necessary! Treatment is given by placing my hands gently on your body in a sequence of non-intrusive hand positions, which normally cover both the front and back of the body. You may feel intense heat, tingling, coolness, throbbing or other sensations. You may feel very little, although many clients experience a sense of well-being and relaxation - some fall asleep! Sometimes a treatment can be energising: there is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki. (Reiki practitioners are not trained in diagnosis and will not offer any diagnosis, prognosis or advice. If you are concerned about symptoms you should see your GP.)

Which conditions can Reiki help?
Healing is possible at any level of being: physical, mental, or emotional. Acute injuries can be helped to heal quickly but more chronic conditions take longer. In some cases such as terminal illness, there is not enough time for the progress of the disease to be reversed. However, in such cases it can be beneficial and will enhance the quality of life giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining. Reiki supports all forms of treatment both orthodox and complementary.

How many treatments will I need?
This varies from person to person. In general most problems will take time to heal - healing with Reiki is a process rather than an event thus acute problems heal faster than chronic ones. While a one off treatment will do something beneficial for you, giving a sense of calm and peacefulness along with some short-term physical benefits too, the best results come through having a course of treatments, maybe 4-6 sessions at weekly intervals. If your problem is of long standing it may require treatments over a longer period of time. It may also be beneficial to have a number of treatments close together. The effects of Reiki build up cumulatively, and having a course of treatments helps to produce long-term beneficial changes for you on many levels.
However, while a Reiki practitioner may suggest how treatments should be spaced and encourage you to continue, you should feel free to make the decision about what treatment you wish to receive.
